Back on WW and Wrestlemania Picks

31 03 2011

Started back on Weight Watchers two weeks ago and I’ve been feeling really good.  I had, of course, gained some weight but for the most part, I’ve been eating well the last two weeks.  I took my usual “off” day on Saturday, then failed again and got some KFC on Sunday but other than that, I did well.  I only lost 0.8 pounds this past week but that’s mostly because I only worked out on Friday.

I’m still trying to get into the habit of working out in the morning.  I’m not a morning person whatsoever and I used to work out at night, usually while wrestling was on.  Well now I work 3p-11p and am usually too tired to work out at night.  So getting up in the morning is a challenge, but one I’m working on.

And my second favorite wrestling show of the year (behind the Royal Rumble) is this Sunday…that being Wrestlemania 27.  I figured I’d make my picks for this year’s show:

Sheamus d. Daniel Bryan to retain the U.S. Championship
Rey Mysterio d. Cody Rhodes
Snooki (yes, that Snooki), Trish Stratus and John Morrison d. LayCool & Dolph Ziggler
The Corre d. Big Show, Kane, Vladimir Kozlov & Santino Marrella
Jerry Lawler destroys Michael Cole
Randy Orton d. CM Punk
Edge d. Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
The Miz d. John Cena to retain the WWE Championship
Undertaker d. Triple H

Boom.  There you have it.  I made these picks a while ago (except for the 8-man tag which was announced Monday) and I already have them on record with a friend so I can’t change them.  If I could, I would have Punk winning over Orton and Del Rio winning the WHC, but I have to stick with my original picks.  Ohh well.  Can’t wait for Sunday.

Struggling…

17 11 2010

Starting tonight, I’m going back in the gym.  For how long remains a mystery but it’s something that I’ve struggled with, along with proper eating, for about two years now.

I was doing so well two years ago.  I was just 23 pounds shy of my goal weight of 200 pounds.  Now I’m not exactly sure where I’m at but it’s somewhere around 90 pounds shy.  I don’t want to be a 300-pounder again (unless my estimate is wrong and I already am).

Thursday is my Monday as far as starting a new week.  That’s when I usually would go to my Weight Watchers meeting.  I’m probably going to go to the meeting tomorrow but I’m still debating if I’m going to weigh in.  I know I should…and I’m still paying 40 bucks a month to do so…I just don’t want to see the results…as tragic as they’re going to be.

So after I get off work, I’m heading home to get something to eat, grab my gear and I’m going to the gym at Emmis.  I won’t be able to do much cardio as my legs are still sore from raking a shitload of leaves at my mom’s house (mostly from lots of bending and lunging to grab leaves and throw them in the trash bags).   But I’m going to do some light lifting and maybe some time on the exercise bike while watching The Ultimate Fighter.

I’m more worried about next week where I’m working 61 hours between my two (technically three) jobs.  Eating on Thanksgiving Day won’t be that bad because I can’t eat too much or my stomach issues will arise again.  But getting into the gym will be tough.  I’ll be sleeping at the station three out of five nights because I’m working the morning show and I can’t trust myself to get up early at my place when I have to go to bed so late.  So the hope is that I won’t be too exhausted and just work out when I get to the station at night.

So here’s hoping that this is my last “getting back on track” blog post.  We’ll see…

Perez Hilton Is A Douchebag…

2 09 2010

I’ve found myself frequently reading PerezHilton.com lately (mostly because all TMZ reports on is Lindsay Lohan and Mel Gibson) and despite his douchiness, I sometimes get some really good info.  However I just read an article that cemented his douchebaggery (how many variations of “douchebag” can I come up with?).

The story is about one of the Jersey Shore girls beating up Snooki’s ex-boyfriend.  Long story short, they were both at some strip club, he started talking crap and she came on stage and beat him in the face at least 3 times with a microphone and poured a bunch of drinks on him.  Actually…it is kinda funny.  Here’s the article if you want to read it: http://bit.ly/9OprMb

Here’s where Captain Douchebag comes into play.  Here’s his exact quote:

“We don’t condone violence, but there’s no way she could have beaten him as badly as this guy claims he did! And this is just HIGHlarious! This douche has been running his mouth about everything and everyone since day one – it’s no surprise she had had enough.”

He doesn’t condone violence, yet he’s laughing at the person that got beat up.  Don’t get me wrong, I agree with him…it’s a hilarious story…however Perez seems to forget a little incident a while back where he was in this guy’s place…

Remember that awards show in Canada where Perez was punched in the face by a member of Will.I.Am’s security?  Remember when Perez called Will the “F” word that rhymes with “Hag”?  Remember that “HIGHlarious” video of Perez crying and bitching and moaning about it?

Here’s the video if you want to see it.  I’ll give you a cookie if you can make it the full six minutes: http://bit.ly/deW0Ou

It’s the same situation (no pun intended).  Snooki’s ex talks a bunch of shit (kinda like Perez does on his web site), Angelina has finally had enough (kinda like Will and his entourage did) and Snooki’s ex gets beat in the face (kinda like Perez did).

Looks like Perez Hilton calling this guy a “douche” is the pot calling the kettle black.

And by the way, Perez, quit calling yourself the “Queen of All Media.”  I’m pretty sure that title belongs to Oprah.  Host a talk show for 25 years, own a magazine, a production company, and your own cable network and then we’ll talk.

But hey, if I could make a bunch of money by drawing semen on people’s faces, I’d probably have a huge ego too.

I’m back (but for how long?)…

22 07 2010

This time I’m not going to promise it’s for good.  I always seem to do that after I come back to a blog after a long period of time.  However I’m going to do my best to stay back…haha.

The last few months have been really crazy.  My work schedule has just gotten out of control and my motivation to get/stay healthy just waned.  I have that motivation back after seeing a photo of myself from my cousin’s wedding this past Friday.  I had some pictures taken of me a few weeks prior to that and I thought I looked OK but this picture showed how I really looked, in my opinion.

Needless to say I’m not happy about it.  I’m back on my way to where I was in 2006 and that’s not gonna happen.  I was planning on going to the gym tonight after work, however I was asked to fill in for a coworker doing the overnight shift tonight.  So basically I can’t get to the gym until Sunday.

The good news is that I now get two extra days to work out.  After this weekend, I’m not working overnight on Friday nights anymore.  So that means I can either get up earlier and work out or go after work on Fridays.  Then, on Saturdays I can work out after my on-air shift instead of racing home to catch a nap before my overnight shift.  So that will make it much easier.

And of course, if it ever stops raining, I can always get some exercise by mowing the lawn.  I tried today but it started pouring 5 minutes after I started.

I don’t think I’m ready to weigh myself just yet but I will get to that.  I did however start tracking my points on Weight Watchers again so that’s a start.  Now to finish this Diet Mt. Dew and starting drinking water again.

Had to take a break…

10 03 2010

I haven’t worked out at all this week, but it’s for good reason.  On and off last week I was having some very minor chest pains, mostly on the left side.  Didn’t really think anything of it except for the one time it was pretty bad during a running session.  Then on Sunday, it was more noticeable and this time, I was feeling pain in my left arm as well.  Needless to say I was freaking out a little bit.  So I decided to just take the week off to see if it got better and if it didn’t, I would call the doctor.  Normally, I would have just called the doctor but thanks to my shitty insurance I decided to wait.  (Let’s get on this thing Congress…decent health insurance would be nice.  But I digress…)

So for the last few days I’ve just been taking it easy, chilling at home and not doing anything too strenuous.  Luckily, I’ve been feeling better every day since so I’m going to start getting back into the gym, but I’m going to take it slow.  I’m not going to do the C25K training this week.  Just going to use the eliptical and exercise bike like I used to do.

Also, I’m going to try and get back into the YRG Fitness system.  YRG stands for “Yoga For Regular Guys” and was started by a former pro wrestler named Diamond Dallas Page.  Sounds weird, but it’s actually really cool.  I bought the old DVD they put out a while ago but I just couldn’t get into a routine of doing it.

They’ve got a whole new fitness system now so I told myself I’d buy it if I could consistently use the DVD I currently have for three months.  I’m going to start tomorrow and the plan is to use it on the days I’m not doing the 5K training.  So we’ll see how that goes.

Not weighing in tomorrow.  I’ve got stuff to get done around the house, including take a walk if it’s not raining.  I’ve been wanting to do that so badly since the weather’s been nicer but I just haven’t had the chance.  Here’s hoping.

3.4.10 Weigh-In…

4 03 2010

This weigh-in was for the last two weeks and I stayed at the same weight.  This is a good thing for me because I was almost sure that I was going to have a gain.  I didn’t eat too well and the only exercise I got was the 5K training program, which isn’t as much as I’m used to.  So I’m happy.

The 5K training is going well.  I just started week 2 earlier today which is alternating 90 seconds of jogging and 2 minutes of walking.  Next week is when it gets a little trickier because the times vary more often.  I think in day 3 of week 5, is when I run the whole time for the first time…that’s gonna be a bitch, but I’ll be ready for it.

Today has been a freakin’ beautiful day.  I was hoping to have enough time to take a walk but I didn’t, with all the errands I had to run.  Tomorrow, I just have one errand and I’m definitely gonna get a walk in.  I take walks all the time around my neighborhood and the one next to it, especially when it’s warmer outside.  It’s very relaxing for me to just listen to my iPod and walk as long as I want to.  If I have time, I usually go for about an hour but sometimes I just keep it to 25-30 minutes at a time.

Since I don’t have any more marathon work days for a while, this weekend is going to be much easier on me, both in getting my exercise in and eating well.  I was struggling on those Fridays because I’d always run over my daily Weight Watchers points and almost my weekly points as well.  I think I’ll be a lot better through this weekend and it will show next Thursday when I weigh in.

Dancing With The Stars…

2 03 2010

OK, so every season of Dancing With the Stars, I always pick a winner before the season begins.  I started this because my mom’s a huge fan of the show and is always watching it and telling me how the contestants are doing.  I started making picks on Season 4…and I’m 4 for 6.  The 2 seasons I was wrong, my picks came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.  So I’ve got a pretty good track record.  This season, however, it’s going to be tough to make a pick.

I’m not going through the whole list of contestants but the two I’ve narrowed it down to are Nicole Sherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls and Evan Lysacek, who won the Gold medal in Figure Skating in Vancouver.   We’ve all seen how well an Olympian can do with Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson both winning their seasons.  But Nicole, obviously, has an extensive dancing background, so it’s gonna be hard to choose.  I’ll make my pick before the season premiere on March 22nd.

I always make three picks.  First, I pick the person to win it all.  Second, I pick a contestant of the opposite sex to go the farthest.  For example, if I picked Nicole to win, then Evan would be my pick of the men to go the farthest.  Then I have my “sentimental” pick…the person I want to win, but I know won’t.  Wayne Newton and Warren Sapp have both been sentimental picks.  My sentimental pick this season is Chad Ochocinco.  I don’t care for the guy but I think he’s going to be highly entertaining.

So, between Nicole and Evan, who do you think will win?  Leave a comment and let me know.

And keep in mind…I’ve never seen one full episode of the show.  I’ve got a basic understanding of its structure but I can’t say I’ve seen an episode.  That’s going to change this year…I’m going to watch them online, mostly so I have talking points for the radio station.

BTW, I hope Kate Gosselin breaks her leg during a live dance.

My Memory Sucks…

1 03 2010

Saturday, before work, I went to the gym at Emmis to continue week 1 of the C25K program.  However I wasn’t able to do so…because I forgot to bring a pair of freakin’ workout shorts.  Not sure what happened there.  It was probably because I had gotten an unusual 11 hours of sleep prior to leaving because of working 9a-6a before I went to sleep.

Regardless, the C25K program is three days per week.  I can still get in my other two for this week tomorrow and Wednesday.  Getting up early tomorrow won’t be hard because I have an eye doctor appointment in the morning.  Getting up Wednesday morning might be problematic but I’ll do my best.  If all else fails, I’ll just work out at night.  But I’m trying to keep this “waking up early” thing going.

The Running Has Begun…

26 02 2010

So I’ve come to the conclusion that I HAVE to run this 5K coming up in June.  Why?  It’s the only way I can justify spending $140 on running shoes.  Yes…140 smackeroos.  Now, I’m sure that I could have gotten running shoes for much cheaper but I wanted to go to The Running Company because I had no idea what I was looking for and I wanted to get the right kind of shoe.  I think I’ve accomplished that.

I started the C25K training program yesterday and it went just fine.  The first week is alternating 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking.  Week 2 is 90 seconds of jogging and 2 minutes of walking.  As the weeks go on, the amount of walking decreases and running increases until, on week 9, I should be running a solid 30 minutes which should be approximately 3.2 miles.  And once the weather gets better, I’m going to take a couple days and run on the Monon Trail to get used to running on actual terrain, rather than a treadmill.

I’m really excited about this because it’s been a goal of mine for a long time that I just haven’t been able to properly train for.  My schedule was all out of whack and I never knew when I’d have time to work out.  Now, even though my schedule is still pretty crazy, it’s somewhat consistent and I have days set aside for working out (Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday…and once 24 is over, Mondays as well).  I plan on doing more 5K’s during the summer months and if all goes well, I’m going to attempt the Mini Marathon next year.  But that’s a long ways away, so I’m just focusing on this first race.

Now back to the work marathon.  13.5 hours and counting until I can sleep again.  :)

It’s Official…

24 02 2010

Starting tomorrow, I’m going to officially begin the c25k training program.  It stands for “Couch-to-5K”…a program designed to get you running a 5K within about 9 weeks, if you can follow the whole thing straight and not repeat a week.

My friends Evelyn and Breana are doing the Relay For Life 5K in June which gives me plenty of time to do the program and repeat some weeks if necessary.  That’s always been one of my goals, to run a 5K and now that my schedule is somewhat normalized and I have specific days set for working out, it makes it easier to train.

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to The Running Company in Broad Ripple because they have this system for finding the right kind of running shoe.  I’m not sure how much it’ll cost for the shoes (probably more than I’m expecting) but it’ll be worth it in the long run (haha…see what I did there?).

Plus, I need something new to do while working out.  I enjoy the eliptical and bike but it gets pretty repetitive after a while.  This will help keep things fresh.  And, once the snow is finally gone, I can go to the Monon or just run around my neighborhood (which is a perfect half mile around) instead of using a treadmill…and that would be better to get used to running on actual terrain as well.

Depending on how long it takes at the store, I may not be able to start…my plan is to get there right when they open and have enough time to go to the gym.  If I can’t get to the gym tomorrow, I’ll have to wait until Saturday.  I can’t go tomorrow night because I have to do another marathon day of work (9a-6a) starting Friday morning and I need my sleep.  Luckily, this is the last marathon day I’m doing for a while so I don’t have to worry about it in the forseeable future.

Wish me luck!

BTW, I tried to eat a salad today and it just didn’t work out.  I hate that stuff…ugh.  I’ll keep trying, though.
